We decked out the kitchen in Winnie the Pooh merch, put out some nibblies, made up some fairy bread and had a big chocolate cake in the fridge ready to go. Isobel was a little fragile to start with, we don't often have some many kiddies around to visit and she had no idea what was going on. Eventually she warmed up though, and was very good letting everyone play with her toys.
Isobel loved the fairy bread, and managed to get hundreds and thousands EVERYWHERE. She just loves being able to feed herself, though, so the little triangles were perfect. The other kiddies enjoyed decorating the balloons on the backs of each chair with funny faces (whoever thought to put face stickers in the balloon kits is BRILLIANT!).
Finally it was time to bring out the cake - everyone sang Happy Birthday, and Isobel soon had chocolate cake and chocolate icing smeared from one ear to the other. She saved her special trick for Mummy, though - after getting fed up with being held by Dad, she was passed over and proceeded to smear chocolate cake all over my shirt ... much to everyone's amusement!!
Luckily the sugar rush didn't last too long - Isobel started winding down a bit earlier than normal. All we have to say now is "bath time?" and she heads for the gate, climbs the stairs (under Mummy's watchful eye) and toddles into her room ready to get changed. She won't let me just read books to her any more, she picks and chooses which book she wants and has to turn the pages herself. She's also figured out if she flicks back through the pages at the end of the story instead of closing the book, she gets to stay up a little longer ... smart cookie
We all had a wonderful day, and feel so lucky to have been able to share such an event with some of the friends we've made here. If only we could've had more of our families here too ... but we know everyone was with us in spirit!!
