The Mustang Club of America is holding it's Nationals - West in Lacey, WA this weekend. As part of the weekend's 'celebrations', the hosting club (Mustangs West), held a Pony Express drive to Mt. St. Helens.

Jack and Steve were to join us for the day, however, Jack girlfriend was visiting from Australia; and, Steve had electrival gremlins.

About 60 cars turned up for the drive on a very cold and foggy morning. We were concerned that we may not be able to drop the top on the convertible at all...

The trip down the I-5 from Lacey to the turn off to Johnston Ridge was a little dreary. Grey skies, and the threat of rain didn't do much for our mood - although the line of Mustangs, and the sound of rumbling V8s help to lift our mood.

We stopped at a Shell service station just off the I-5 to refuel, take in some food, and take more photos and video. Our convertible, looked very good, with a a new addition of a flaming pony insert on the grille.

Taking a chance, we dropped the top on the car, and headed toward the mountain. It turned out to be a good decision, with brilliant sunshine soon replacing the clouds.

The drive finished with group photos at the observatory at Johnston Ridge. Ali and I watched the video on the eruption in the observatory cinema, and then wandered around for a little while.

After a bite to eat, we then headed to Olympia for a photograph with American Beauty, a P-51 Mustang based at the Olympic Air Museum (you may have seen my previous photos of this aircraft).
